Get Ready For The Holiday Season With Fun Christmas Crafts For Kids

Elf on the shelf

School holidays mean fun for the kids. With the festive season just around the corner, it can be challenging to keep kids entertained during the long school holidays. However, with a bit of creativity, there are plenty of fun activities you and your children can do together to keep them occupied.

Here are four easy and fun crafts that will keep your kids engaged and having fun during the school holidays this festive season!

1. Christmas Daily Elf On The Shelf

This is a Christmas tradition where an elf doll is placed in the house on any shelf from the North pole to encourage kids to behave themselves until the night before Christmas. The idea behind it is that the elf is from the and it “watches” the kids during the day and returns to the north pole at night to report to Santa on whether they were being nice or naughty.

There are 2 rules to give your kids about the elf :

  1. The kids are not allowed to touch the elf. If they do it loses its magical powers and the kids will need to write a letter to Santa to apologise and sprinkle a bit of cinnamon next to the elf to give it strength to get back to the North Pole.
  2. The Elf doesn’t move around or speak when the kids are awake and only moves at night when it has to go back to the North Pole to report to Santa on whether the kids were naughty or nice that day. Once it returns it moves to another position in the house. The kids will have to look for the elf’s new position every morning. You can make this more engaging for the kids by adding colour faces stickers to the elf at night when the kids are asleep that are from Santa indicating if he is happy that the kids are being nice and no stickers on the elf if Santa is not happy with the kids being naughty.

You can also use write a note with instructions from Santa on what the kids have to do that day, and place next to the elf. For example, check out the below image by Modern Mom Life on Pinterest.

3. Christmas Cards

Take out the craft supplies and turn on your Christmas songs because it’s time to get creative with the kids. You can have the kids draw a Christmas tree on cardboard or piece of paper then colour it in and some colour coded stickers as the lights or you could craft something else with them Check out this Christmas card ideas blog from the sitters.co.uk website for some inspiration.

Encourage kids to write to Santa and this could be a fun learning experience for the kids that could help them with the following :

  • To practice gratitude for the things they have, and for the gifts that they anticipate having.
  • Help them practice their spelling and grammar skills with their parents by their side.
  • Challenge their thinking skills & learn to weigh the benefits of things as they have to narrow down the list of things that they want.
